Why I Started This Blog

I created this blog to share recipes with my friends, family, and the rest of the food community, but also because it is an outlet for three of the things I love doing most. I majored in Linguistics, went on to work in writing and editing, and enjoy writing recreationally in my spare time. Cooking and photography are my favorite hobbies, so a food blog seemed like a perfect project for me. I have been reading books, magazines and blogs, as well as watching cooking shows much more frequently in the last few years in order to develop my cooking skills. Most importantly I cooked my way through many recipes until I was confident enough to edit and create my own recipes, and to share them with you.


What I Like to Cook and Eat

My favorite foods are simple, soulful comfort foods- dishes that are a small step above the ordinary, but not overly complicated or pretentious. What I enjoy the most are dishes that are vegetable based and layered with savory flavors, especially root vegetable and squash meals. I make these most commonly, along with pastas, soups and salads, and roasted or grilled poultry or fish. I typically base my meals around alternative proteins such as dairy, grains or soy due to the fact that I donít consider it sustainable to eat meat or fish every day, and because good quality, well-treated meats are often very expensive. I think the best desserts are fresh fruit or fruit-based.


About My Life

I live with my husband Micah, a programmer, in Los Angeles- though we donít consider ourselves to generally be "big-city folk". We met and fell in love at university in Santa Cruz, and we were married after moving to Los Angeles. We enjoy spending time with friends and family, playing games, and spending time outdoors. Micah is often my cooking and photography assistant, and he loves to eat the results as much as I love to make them. I have always loved cooking and eating, and began as a child establishing my baking skills. As I became an adult I began doing as much cooking as I could, and it has been a major part of my life since then. Now I typically make every day the kind of meal that Iím sharing on this blog. I find cooking to be incredibly rewarding and relaxing, on top of being part of a healthier lifestyle and an affordable food budget.
